About the role
We are seeking an experienced LANSA / IBM i Application Engineer to support and enhance enterprise business applications for an international client.
This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in LANSA or Visual LANSA, RDML/RDMLX, and IBM i / AS400 environments. You will work on existing enterprise applications while supporting development, troubleshooting, integrations, production issues, and continuous improvements.
What you will do
- Develop, maintain, enhance, and troubleshoot applications built with LANSA / Visual LANSA
- Work with RDML and/or RDMLX code and related LANSA components
- Support applications running in IBM i / AS400 environments
- Analyze application issues, identify root causes, and implement fixes
- Develop and test application enhancements based on business requirements
- Work with SQL and relational databases, including DB2 for IBM i when applicable
- Support application integrations, interfaces, APIs, and web services
- Perform testing, debugging, code reviews, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with developers, technical leads, business users, and international stakeholders
- Provide production support and assist with incident and problem resolution
What we are looking for
- Professional experience developing or supporting LANSA / Visual LANSA applications
- Hands-on experience with RDML and/or RDMLX
- Experience working with IBM i / AS400 environments, or strong LANSA-based enterprise application experience
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read, modify, and maintain existing application code
- Good written and spoken English
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment and collaborating with an international team
Preferred
- RPG, RPGLE, or ILE RPG experience
- DB2 for IBM i experience
- LANSA Integrator or LANSA Composer experience
- REST API, SOAP, or web services experience
- Git or other source-control experience
- Application modernization or migration experience
- Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise applications
